                                                   Christmas day December 25th,2016

God gave us his son to come as a babe
in early morn long ago in a stable
                                                       Shepards came bearing gifts
wanting to see the new King.

In awe all looked on this tiny one
as the sun began to rise
                                                           Mary now a Mother
And Joseph gazed at the babe...

                                                          Thank you God above
                                                              for sending this "true Love"
                                                                   to show the way
we can find our way home.

In the Field of Grace by Tessa Afshar

I enjoy reading Bibical fiction books and Tessa does a great job with research making us love the characters she creates from the ones found in the Bible.
Everyone knows the story in Hebrews about Ruth and Boaz....

These two in this book made me see them in a new way. After all..the people that walked the earth so many years ago were just like you and I, this story shows us they were human too.

Ruth had a difficult life with her family , one (Grandfather) made her life enjoyable -their bond was quite close and she was devastated when he died and left them.
soon after she married Mahlon and became close with her mother-in-law Naomi. He loved Ruth and taught her many things while they were together but times were hard in those days and their lives together were so different then what we know now.
Both he and his brother became ill with fever and when they died and the grief was so hard for Naomi and her daughters-in-laws,that she decided they should move back to Israel. Along the way she wanted the girls to return to their families and not go further but Ruth chose to stay . This is when we have her voice "Ruth insists upon staying with Naomi. "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you," Ruth tells Naomi. "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."
After the journey they settled on lands of Naomi's husband and each day Ruth would go out and glean from the fields to help them live. Boaz had many fields and was a wealthy man in those days and when he saw Ruth working -he told his workers to leave some behind for her.
When Naomi saw that both Ruth and Boaz seemed to care for one another she wanted them to be together and she told Ruth to go lay at his feet and uncover them. once he saw that she had done this he knew she wanted him for a husband and he was pleased.
Reading the story of the love that these two shared is a wonderful story,Thanks Tessa for sharing your talant with us.

Mattie's PledgeMattie's Pledge by Jan Drexler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

this is a series"Journey to Pleasant Prairie" book #2, Mattie's Pledge written by Jan Drexler

I like reading about prairie stories but Mattie was a challenge, she was always searching never content. Jacob Yoder was an old friend that she has known from childhood and she trusted him. He was the one constant that helped ground her.
Now the family is moving again to another amish community in another state across the prairies.
She has always dreamed of going west ...farther west.
This book will take you into the mid 1800's amish lifestyle. Times are tough and the trip west is very rough. On this journey Mattie will meet a charming english man who is a sheep in wool clothing if you get my drift. He charms Mattie with tales of the West each time they happen to meet, trying to entice her to leave her amish community and go with him.
I enjoyed learning from Jacob about the sheep he took with them on their journey and the
tenderness he had with the children. Mattie stole my heart and I yearned for her to find happiness and to lose the wonderlust she always seemed to have....life took many turns for her until she knew in her heart of hearts that she would always be amish, she could not leave her family and then to be content.

Thank you to Jan for a wonderful story, I read and reviewed with my honest opinion .
I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

My thoughts after reading,
Bethany feels as if the world is passing her by and she will never get to be a "Frau".
There have been many things happening in the life of her family...A brother was killed in an accident and her mother is in a state of grieving, she wants no holidays or birthdays remembered.just let the days go forward with work and little enjoyment.
Next, her father has problems and is hospitalized , they think he is getting dementia when many strange things were done with his knowlege.
The family is devestated.
One morning when she goes out to do chores she finds a young man asleep there. Soon she realizes it is someone she knew before , He had left the community, Silas. Ah she had such a crush on that boy,now wonder what is going to happen with him at their home looking so "Bedraggled".

Bethany wants to Love and be loved -to have a home and family of her own. She has a secret too and wants to leave the community before "Hen" gets out of jail and wants to do what he has done before to her...she is frightened and not sure how to make him stop hurting her. She feels many in authority just keep telling her to be submissive and it confuses her.
BUT
Silas is different and she knew him from before and feels OK around him, she is wondering if he might feel the same about her and he might be "The One".
Silas has problems of his own and is scared to try and have a relationship with Bethany and stay in this place, His family was abusive and he had left it hoping for a better future.
This story about Silas and Bethany is one of Love and forgiveness.
This story has many a twist and just when you think you know what will happen, it moves again in a different direction.
After reading this book,I am sure you will want to read more of her.

From This Day Forward (Song of Blessing #4)From This Day Forward by Lauraine Snelling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Series Song of Blessing book#1 "From This Day Forward", by Lauraine Snelling

I so enjoyed going back to Blessing and to the characters that I had fallen in love with from the Red River series. Ingeborg is such a strong character and she leads the young women in the area by example. She had so much heartache from the early years yet she stayed strong by her strong faith and the friendship of family and friends.
You will be so blessed to read these books by Lauraine Snelling
This book tells the story of Deborah and her love for a man that cares for her but is afraid to make a commitment. Can she ever get him to get past his heartache from an abusive home before he and his brother were taken in by the Valders and saw a love that he had always wanted in his life.
His brother had overcame his past and had a good life with his wife and family and he is always trying to show Toby that he too can do this if he will only accept Deborah's love. Many in the town are trying to get the two together also.
You will enjoy reading this story of small town living and characters that are just like your neighbors next door.

I received this book from Bethany House publishers and thank them for the awesome read.

                                                          Tempus Fugit

As September has zipped right through her days and now is sailing forward to October I am at a loss as to how fast time is going since I became a senior.
I want the days of my youth when I ran and played with my siblings,no thought for how a meal would be there to feed us....no thought for how the roof over our heads got paid....no thoughts other then happiness for the day.  no thoughts of tomorrow,I would sleep soundly and awake to a day of school-homework-playing again...I had no worries as I do now...
Generation after generations life goes on...Grandpa and Grandma leave us and soon we are the grandparents, smiling and happy to play with the grandchildren.  Proudly smiling as our children work a good job-have children& strive to be a good citizen ...paying their bills and living "The Good Life".  It is their turn to be responsible, making their children have no thoughts of where a meal would come from, knowing they could sleep soundly and live the carefree life of a child.
I am reminded of the verses in the Bible of "A time to live and A time to die", we will all die to this world-yet only by accepting the grace of our father in heaven-We can live eternally.
Our lives on earth are so short compared to what we can have afterwards.
I have met many people on my journey moving forward, in jobs that I have had, in neighborhoods where I lived.  In church where we met and Love was shared.
I hope your journey has been a good one and that you are ready to live that eternal life ahead, I want to meet you again my friends and family.....Accept and live.

~Missing my sister Linda Louise,written by Pauline~

You have only been gone a short time from this earth and your body, as I write these words.
I sit here remembering your big heart and your smiling face.  I want to hug you one more time and know this will not happen.  You said many times you were ready to go but, I was not ready...will never be ready.

I know you are in a better place even before your body leaves the nursing home, you are soaring with the angels...running around on new feet, your body restored.

While I sit here with tears in my eyes and a hole in my heart...just thinking~I wish I had one more time to call.

Sisters should not have to be parted and now I have lost two of mine, younger sisters that should still be living and loving.  Now you are together ,you can watch for the rest of us.  We will be heading in your direction, keep an eye out for us...soon we will be together again.

September is Linda's birthday month and thoughts of her have visited my thoughts so pulled this poem I had written the day she died....My heart was so heavy with loss.  she died in April
Only a month later in May David, husband to Linda died suddenly ...leaving us stunned.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A sensible Arrangement by Tracie Peterson

I picked this one up at thrift shop, because I like reading this author.

Marty Dandridge Olson is a widow and lives on a Texas ranch..she was devastated when her husband was killed by a bull. Now 4 years later she wants to move thinking the ranch is a dangerous place.
One day she sees an ad in the paper from a man in Colorado looking for a texas woman who would like to come and have a sensible arrangement by marrying and living with him.
Its a way out that she is considering.
Jacob Wythe was a texan now living in Colorado and working as a banker. His heart is in Texas and hopes to return there one day and have his own ranch. This is one think he neglects to tell Marty when they write one another.
As the wife of a banker Marty must change the way she has lived and become a socialite. The president of the bank's wife wants to help her adapt and so much of it just seems trivial and Marty is soon bored. She had always been busy working on the ranch and now she had servants to do all the work in the home. She was to become like a social butterfly going from tea to tea.
Their marriage was to be ,just an arrangement, but both of them soon find they are so comfortable with one another and beginning to have feelings that are nothing like arrangements. Can they change -who must speak first? They are married after all.
I enjoyed reading this story and know you will too, from beginning to end this couple were respectful and each learning from the other that sensible arrangements could change if they had the courage to move forward.

Christmas at Holly HillChristmas at Holly Hill by Martha   Rogers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another wonderful story from Martha out on the prairies..."Christmas at Holly Hill"

This is not a big Christmasy book as I thought when I started it. Holly Hill is an orphanage and the couple that run it with their daughter love children so much that it just seems like a big loving family.

Clayton Barlow has just came back to town after serving time in prison, he got into trouble when young with a group of young men that were up to no good. To make matters worse -his father-was the one that let the sherriff know he had been involved in a robbery. Clay only wants to come back to town and earn respect again -mostly from his aging parents.

Most of the towns people are not too forgiving but right away he runs into an old school chum,Merry Lee Warner, whom he had went to school with and even had a crush on before things went bad for him. She is a loving caring person and accepts him as he his and wants to renew their friendship. Can Clay prove that he has changed his ways and have others accept him?

Martha Rogers has these characters pull us into their lives as the pages turn, chapter after chapter. Soon we are hoping right along with Clay for them to see he has changed.

Believe it or not

Today I listened to a man tell of how he comes to terms with Trump becoming the 45th president as a christian.
God does not always choose christian people to further his plans, sometimes one that is brash and just a little different, can be chosen.
He spoke of reading in Isaiah 45th chapter that Cyrus was such a man and he believes that Trump just might be the "Cyrus" of  our days now.
One that HE will lead to help our country from the evil that has taken over.  God can do many things that man alone cannot, and I want to believe that this could be so.
I have read this chapter in Isaiah and  can see the similarities of Cyrus and Trump.
I am hoping others will read and prayerfully decide themselves if there just could be something here.
I have never seen such a movement in our country in the elections as I have this year -state after state.,"The People" have spoken.  Evil surrounds us each and everyday.
we have monuments to war veterans desecrated and even removed.  laws made and some just done without laws to back them up.   Killings and riots in the streets. family members killing their own also.
It is not safe to trust and without trust where are we?  I am saddened each day when I see more of the same.

CYRUS: GOD'S ANOINTED SHEPHERD
Nearly 150 years before Cyrus was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold his birth, his name, and the tasks that the Creator God had predetermined for him to accomplish. The Bible records that certain people are foreordained to be born and carry out specific tasks for God during their lifetime and a few of these individuals are even named before their birth. Cyrus the Great was one of these individuals whom God had predestined to play a pivotal roll in his awesome plan for humanity.
King Cyrus was an extremely important person, because God destroyed the Babylonian empire through him, and brought a close to a seventy-year punishment of the Jews that God imposed on them for their rebellion against him. Also through King Cyrus, God set into motion his seventy-week prophecy that fixed the year for the Messiah's death and resurrection, and reveals the sequence of events and dates for the Messiah's return which will bring to an end human rule of the earth, and usher in the government of God to rule over the entire earth.
Although historians have slightly differing interpretations and views of the historical record concerning the dates of Cyrus' birth and death and his various accomplishments, there is ample historical documentation that Cyrus the Great was indeed a real person whose name is mentioned over 22 times in the Bible and whose tomb in Iran can be visited today.

The Amish FirefighterThe Amish Firefighter by Laura V. Hilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Laura V Hilton writes a novel "The Amish Firefighter"

Abigail Stutzman has been taken to a bus station and sent many miles from home and family ,not knowing WHY...She is to live with an aunt that she never knew she had, to say she is heartbroken would only be a smidgin of what she feels.

Sam Miller is an amish man but has an unusual job,he likes to work with firemen and is an EMT. A paramedic-in-training. There have been too many fires in his community and he wants to know WHY...then Abigail shows up and also is found at one of the scenes of a barn fire.

How can she explain-she is only in the wrong place , not the "fire-lighter" as Sam calls her.

In the midst of making friends in a new community Abigail befriends some she should not. soon she learns but by then the damage has been done and Sam questions HOW Abigail always seems to be in the wrong place.

These two seem to be thrown together in the next few weeks and as they get to know one another, there are sparks that fly which each of them tries to squash not wanting there to be anything between them. Abigail and Sam soon realize there is no use to deny and come to terms with their budding relationship.

many have great comments for this author and her story but from a readers prospective this review is written to remind others that a book is just a book until you open and read the pages and immerse yourself with the characters who will touch your heart in the author's story.

Want Ad WeddingWant Ad Wedding by Cheryl St John
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

LIH triolgy by three authors."Cowboy Creek", #1 by Cheryl St John with Want Ad Wedding.

I loved this little part of Kansas, Cowboy Creek was settled by three veterans after the war, two had been lifelong friends and the other met in the war Noah.
Noah along with Daniel and Will started and this story will tell how they grew over the years.
Now the men know they need women to make their community grow so they put a want ad to draw them.
Fate or divine intervention, who should be on the first "Bride Train", Leah who had grown up with Daniel and Will. I choose to think it was God's plan for these three to be together again.
I loved reading this story and know if you like LIH stories you will too. we will get to see the men find wives and the women coming that need a second chance come together as only God can plan.

Amish Sweethearts (Neighbors of Lancaster County, #2)Amish Sweethearts by Leslie Gould
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Series Neighbors of Lancaster County. book #2 by Leslie Gould

I read the first book in this series but had I not , the story would still have been a good one to read.
As children Zane Beck and Lila Lehman were neighbors and best friends...so as they grew up there was a strong friendship that was slowly turning into something that frightened them..The reason? He was not amish and she was, this makes a lot of difference to a amish father.
Lila was torn knowing her father and the community wanted her to start courting a good amish boy one who was son of the Bishop that she had grown up with also. She did admire him and knew she never wanted to leave her faith. Her heart was so confused.
You will enjoy reading this story and seeing how it all comes out.

I received this book from Bethany house publishers to read and review, thanks so much.

January is my Birthday month

This one is monumental in that I will be 75...
Who would ever have thought when they were growing up that one day you would be old.
~Not I~
I grew up in Ky where the days were long and satisfying for the most part.
I had 8 siblings, it seemed as if the oldest 4 were gone by the time I was aware of my life
Two sisters getting married and leaving home still in their teens.
Two brothers joining the service and leaving home.
next was my sister Pearl who being just a little older,it seemed we were always doing things together
Below me was a brother and two sisters,Bill Sue and Linda.

My friends were school classmates and ones from church along with neighbors.
We were not allowed to venture far from home.
I spent many days playing with my siblings in our home or yard.
I just knew life would be so much better when I was grown.
~Then~

! graduated-left home and moved to Texas ,
Big sister lived here and I soon found a job
Galveston island was so different from Ky.
This is where I met my first husband
He was a sailor and so cute in that uniform.

I married him too quickly, hardly knew the guy
spent the next 20 years regretting my too quick decision.
The only happy part was having two sons that I adored.
Husband spent many years with the ups and downs of alcoholism.

My second part of life was after a divorce and few years later
met and married a retired army guy in Savannah Ga.
He treated me so special when we first met
just knew this would be a happier time

I am not a good judge of men it seems....
