A Sound Among the Trees by Susan Meissner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Just finished book by Susan Meissner "A Sound Among the Trees" this story is a little unusual more about the house then people in it, Mariell met her husband to be on the internet-quite modern huh. The man she meets had a wife die and history of this woman was long and shadowed. The era is in the Civil war and the house is a huge plantation type one, I really liked the book cover.
Susannah Page's mother Adelaide has her own outlook on the house and history of it, she sits in the parlor each day sewing uniforms for military reinactments. There are rumors of a civil war spy but old letters found years later shines a new light on this.
I like the verse at the beginning of book:
There's a sound among the forest trees, away, boys,
Away to the battlefield, hurrah!
Hear its thunders from the mountain, no delay, boys,
We'll gird on the sword and shield.
Shall we falter on the threshold of our fame, boys?
Fanny Crosby..1861
This was an interesting read and I was fortunate to have got this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Pulishing as a free book to review.
